Our Philosophy

ABOUT GOD : The most important decision and 1st priority in life is to have belief and faith in God along with acceptance of Jesus as your Savior. Live your life by example, and be an example of Christianity. People will learn from you and respect you. You may change someone’s life along the way. When our time is up, there is nothing more important than this.

ABOUT FAMILY : 2nd priority is to Family. Nothing on earth is more important than your family. Be thankful you have a family. There are many children out there that would love to have what you do. Cherish the time together, be a support for them; and parents – be thankful for your kids. Use this baseball team to bring your family together and closer. My dad started little league in California and spent years coaching me. Both of my parents were really involved and they are with Trevin.

ABOUT INTEGRITY : Integrity is very important to this coaching staff. Remember that integrity is the one thing that can’t be taken from you – you have to give it away, and once you do it’s very hard to get back. We as a coaching staff will never cheat to win and we will make sure all our kids tell the truth when asked about a play. Our proudest moment for the Lakeland Legends happened in 2008. During a game a line drive was hit to C-Ray who was playing second base. It hit the ground; he fielded it and threw to 1st. The umpire thought he fielded it without a bounce and called a double play. Without even thinking about it our 2nd baseman threw up his arms and told the umpire it bounced first. The call was reversed to a single out. Some coaches may have yelled at him and told him he should have lied. His team cheered for him, as the hero of the game. I would rather that happen and lose then lie and win.

ABOUT FRIENDS : The purpose of this team is to build character and lifelong friendships between good kids. We plan on keeping this team together until the kids go off to college. We as coaches want to use this opportunity to be a support group for the teenage years. We want them to be there for each other and support each other to keep them from doing things that will get them in trouble. We don’t want them to fall victim to peer pressure because of being with the wrong group. That is why all the kids on this team were hand picked for their character.

ABOUT SCHOOL : Another high priority is school work. If one of the kids is good enough for a college scholarship they must make good grades or they won’t be able to play. If one of our players is doing poorly or needs help with school work, as the others are practicing we will sit in the dugout and help them with their work, and if needed, the entire team will help.

ABOUT LIFE : The kids should be thankful for the opportunity to play and be part of a team. I worked on the ambulance for 5 years and saw terrible things. I’ve had people pass away in my arms. It changed my life. It made me realize what I have. Be thankful for what you have and your families. Tell them you love them every day. Even when you’re having a bad day of baseball, and you can’t stop a single ball or hit a single pitch – Don’t Get Down. There are many kids out there who can’t play ball. They have disabilities, are in wheel chairs, maybe don’t have arms or legs. There are some with diseases that only have a short time to live, who would love to be able to do what you do. Don’t take it for granted. Be thankful and if you can ever help them out, take the opportunity.
